If the site offers no value to you(in other peoples reviews) do not join, but if we all shared your flawed point of view, the site would not exist and there would be no reviews or intel to guide you or anyone else.
Don't be a cheap bastard, if you spend hundreds of dollars on this hobby regularly, the VIP is well worth the money to keep you from wasting any needlessly at a place previously reviewed. VIPs could decide to stop sharing intel on the forum to prevent freeloading leechers, would you appreciate that attitude from us? No I don't think you would. There are ways to get VIP without paying, submit a spa not on this site, take a picture of a spa on the site that does not have a photo etc.
